I want to change my hair. I want to move to another state. I want to change my career. I want a new group of friends. I need to change my weight. I need to change my wardrobe. I want to change my credit score. I want to get a different car. I need to make more money. I want a different house. I need more time for myself.
I've heard individuals make these same statements this year. We are often wanting something and needing something. The Greek philosopher Heraclitus once stated "the only thing that is constant is change." We seek change in situations that we longer have room for, no longer like, or were never intrigued with at all.
What does this process look like. Let's start with the lowest level of change- a thought. A small thought radiates in our mind about the need or want. As we entertain the thought, we are either coming into agreement with it or disagreeing with it. After the agreement phase, we move towards taking action. Taking action may be making an action plan prior to engaging in any form of action. Again, in our mind, we see the need and the change that we lack. One of the challenging parts of the action plan, is what is needed to fill in between the need for change and the change itself.
Start. Wherever you are and whatever state you may be in at this time- Just~ Start. The change you seek is within you. You can see the change and you may have an idea of what it would feel like. Believe that it can be done. Let's start with the basics: who, what when, why, and how. As you seek change, answer the basics. Understanding why change is needed will help enforce the need for change.
Who are you and what is it that you desire? The change you seek starts within you. There's a quote by Ghandi that is often repeated "Be the change you wish to see in the world." Self reflect and Be the change. Say I am change, I see change and I will change from the inside out.
